Our Story

Inspired by heritage, the art of play, and joie de vivre, Onanma Okeke grew up with a storied past from living in Nigeria to Brazil to New York.

Influenced by two generations of collectors and named after her sister, Meli is Onanma's tribute to life embodied by culture and stories of generations past.

Love Letter to Craft

My relationship with fashion began long before I understood what it meant. It started in the quiet rituals of getting dressed, watching my mother carefully choose pieces that reflected who she was. She taught me that what we wear is never just about appearance. It is memory, identity, culture, and intention made visible.

Growing up in Nigeria and later living across South America, Asia, and North America, I was constantly surrounded by different ways people expressed themselves. Every place had its own relationship with clothing, craftsmanship, and beauty. I became fascinated not only by what people wore, but by why they wore it, what they cherished, and the stories woven into the things they kept.

I went on to study fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I developed a deep appreciation for the discipline, precision, and patience behind exceptional craftsmanship. More importantly, I learned to see fashion as a language—one capable of preserving heritage, communicating values, and connecting people across generations.

Travel continues to be my greatest source of inspiration. Markets, museums, historic garments, family heirlooms, traditional textiles, and everyday wardrobes all remind me that the most meaningful objects are the ones that carry history. They reflect where we've been and hint at where we're going.

My background in art history further shaped this perspective. I find endless inspiration in archives, exhibitions, and the intersection of art, culture, and materiality. Creativity is sustained by curiosity, and I believe the best work is rooted in understanding the people and traditions that came before us.

Today, I have the privilege of collaborating with skilled artisans in Jaipur and Nigeria whose generations of knowledge continue to inspire me. Together, we celebrate craftsmanship, preserve traditional techniques, and create pieces that honor both heritage and contemporary life. Every creation is a reminder that fashion is at its best when it carries meaning, respects the hands that made it, and tells a story worth passing on.
