The feature explores the story behind Meli, our approach to jewelry, and the experiences that continue to shape the brand. For us, Meli has always been about more than creating beautiful objects. It is about translating culture, memory, travel, art, and personal experiences into pieces that can become part of someone else’s story.
Founded by designer Onanma Okeke, Meli draws heavily from her Nigerian heritage and the many cultures she encountered growing up. Her background in fashion design and art history, combined with a self-taught approach to jewelry design, has shaped Meli’s distinct perspective on craftsmanship and design.
That influence can be seen throughout the collection. From the Narcissus earrings, crafted in 14-karat gold and accented with diamonds, to the Omnia bracelet, Meli’s pieces are designed to feel expressive while remaining versatile enough to become part of everyday life.
But perhaps the piece with the most meaning is also the first.
At 16, Onanma created a necklace for her mother. Years later, it remains her favorite piece she has ever made. That same connection between jewelry and personal memory continues to influence Meli today.
